You know that your home doesn’t look or feel the way you want it to. You might be wanting to make a change, but don’t know where to begin. Updating your home’s interior can be a tough to know where to start, but can be very rewarding!
Your home is where you feel the most comfortable, spend the most time with loved ones, and where you build your life.
It’s important that you love the space you are living in!
Through this blog, I’d like to help you decide which rooms are worth making a transformation to, and what the first steps are to do so!
Decide Which Room Is Most Important to Update First
Knowing which rooms are most important to you is necessary to consider when thinking about updating your home’s interior. Small changes with decor, paint color, or even rearranging can make a huge impact. These updates can affect your mood, family time, and the overall enjoyment and pride you take in your home.
So, what is the most important room in your home?
The living room could be assumed, as this room is where we gather with friends and family.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, right?
This might be a simple question for most people to answer, however, every house and and its’ residence may have different answers.
For most people, it is the kitchen. Many homes are designed where the kitchen is open to the living room or dining room, where kids are playing before a meal. For a family who loves to cook and has an open layout, the kitchen is where most of their life is lived.
For me in our small apartment, the kitchen is tucked off to one corner of the house with no room for seating. This means much more of our time is spent at the table, living room, or bedroom.
Then for some people, they might have a working space in the bedroom. They might also enjoy reading and relaxing in bed with Netflix playing in the background. For them, the bedroom is most important.
One more question to ask yourself is, how often are you hosting guests? Do you love having an open-door lifestyle, where people stop in and stay? This might mean the entry and living room are seen the most. You want people to feel welcomed at the door not just by you but what they see and feel when they enter.
Which room is most important to you? When you know this, you will know which rooms to be updating first.
Whichever room you have chosen, take the time to consider what you want the overall mood to be. Color plays a large role in how people feel when they spend time in a room.
Painting can be the cheapest way to update your home and can make the biggest impact.
In upcoming blogs, we will share more about what colors are trending and how color affects mood.
To get the ball rolling, ask yourself if you want a room to feel light and airy, or dramatic and classy. Do you prefer warm and cozy lighting, or clean and bright.
Is your furniture more so neutral tons or colorful? It often helps to balance the wall color with opposite style furniture and decor. If you have lots of color in your decor, a neutral color or neutralized, muted version might be the best paint choice.
I always recommend asking yourself, if there is a photo or painting in your home that you love the style of? How about a pillow or rug you can pull a color from?
These questions can help direct you as you consider what color to paint, or other furniture to buy.
Painting and rearranging can be one of the most cost affective and impactful ways to bring new life to your home. After you know which room is most important to you, take time to consider how you want that room to feel overall, and what pieces of furniture you already have you know you love.
This will all help you decide where to begin when updating your home and making a transformation!
